1If you want to escape the madness of Mykonos Town, we love this place, The Mykonos Grand.  We got a suite here with great views of Delos and the Sea.  Don’t dive into the beautiful pool and think it will be anything but … freezing! Watch out for the shrinkage gentleman. It’s salt water too so close your eyes!

All in all the food — impeccable. Sounds so cliché but order that Greek salad, the ingredients are picked right from the grounds here.  Beef carpaccio appy is outta control.  Oh and we loved this Greek wine (we haven’t been fans of the vino de Greco in the past), Chateau Nico Lazaridi 2002, it’s a cab, cab franc, merlot and limnio meritage. I think they may have ordered a case for us.

The Euro pool scene is just that, – enough Speedos and Capri pants to last you a lifetime. But the restaurant by the pool is exquisite, especially for people watching so make sure you have good dark sunglasses.

We changed suites and got this big one with our very own pool (serious) and we (John and Janine) were both able to relax with a wonderful view of Delos.  The sunsets were amazing from this vantage point, check it out. We enjoyed them thoroughly (read: with lots of wine).

The suite also came with a genuine outdoor grill (no Webers here people). What came with it was also our own chef and waiter with a menu to die for.

  • First Course: Greek salad, local cheese salad
  • Second Course: Veggies on the grill – Red and yellow peppers, mushrooms and eggplant
  • Third Course: Fresh fish – shrimp, lobster, sea bass, salmon all caught here locally
  • Dessert – Grilled bananas with Grand Marnier and grilled strawberries with fresh homemade vanilla ice cream.

Our amazing waiter (Andreas) and chef (Theodorus) pumped Mastic, a digestif down our throats. It’s WAY better than Ouzo folks.I think John needed a vomitorium, they’re out of style now right?

If you get a chance get a cab and go to Psarous Beach. If you think you can walk to all the beaches (like we did) you’re dead wrong. To get to the next beach you must get up to the main road and go back down to the next beach. Kind of a pain but what you gonna do? This beach is great. People watching can’t be beat. There are two great restaurants, Namous (great bar, get a seat on the couch facing the water, oh and call ahead to reserve) and a nice snack bar next door. You also should call ahead and reserve a beach umbrella, they go FAST.

Mykonos town, no cars allowed, is great. It’s the Castro of SF, plopped right on a beautiful island, no wonder it’s so clean, the bars are cool and the fashion is abound. Stop by Toy Bar, it’s very chic. If you go the Mykonos in late August, everything is on sale, happy day.
