VdV Rating: 3
Food: Ca/american
Ambiance: Pub
PRO: good ‘regulars’ hang out feeling, good lunch spot, fun happy hours, and outdoor seating
CON: Nothing, really unless you’re looking for more upscale dining and wine list.
Perry’s on the Embarcadero opened up in the old Faz (and prior to that, Red Herring) space on the Steuart Street restaurant row, and Mr. Perry Butler’s newest spot is off to a very good start. He’s kept the cool neighborhood/local vibe that his spots on Union Street and downtown (until he closed the downtown location to move here) have. I guess you can’t really say that the Perry’s at SFO has a real regulars vibe…wouldn’t make much sense now would it? No, it wouldn’t. Anyhoo, that’s Perry’s in name only, so we’re not gonna count it.
“Damn I wish we could make $$ just by letting people use our name. You just wait, one of these days…”
Anyway, enough fantasizing. Back to our regular programming. Perry himself is one of the nicest guys you could ever meet, and is still very involved in the running of the places. This Perry’s has a little more
panache than the Union Street joint, mostly ‘cuz it’s newer, and has a little less memorabilia plus it’s sandwiched in with some other fine establishments including Chaya, Boulevard, Ozumo and Shanghai 1930. And the bar is as usual the central theme and hub for the spot. It’s a nice long dark mahogany number with seats for a couple dozen people or so and several TVs.
Hot Tip: Tuesday & Saturday 1/2 price wine nights, every bottle, so splurge!
Grub: Hey y’know what your going to get here, so go with your gut on what a place like this is going to serve up best. All in all the menu is really solid with lots of selections for a pub-type spot but here’s some of our faves:
Spicy Buffalo Wings, Crab Cakes, Onion Strings, Chili, Chopped Salad, Double Decker Reuben, Chicken & Biscuits, Cheeseburger Sliders, NY Strip Steak & Pot Roast . Oh yeah, and the Perry’s Burger, it helped put Perry’s on the map. There, that oughta cover you. And no we didn’t eat these all in one sitting, we’ve been going to Perry’s for years.
Things we’d pass on: Not much…the Tomato Bisque, Cobb Salad, Calamari and Meatloaf.
We like this place most for lunch or drinks and hangin’ outside on nice days.
