Friday: Macy’s 20th Annual Tree Lighting
Here’s the plan for Black Friday: Get up at the crack of noon, down a Bloody Mary or three, snarf down a leftover Turkey sando and head out for a crazy day of bargain shopping. Wait. Take a shower, first ya smelly slob. Then go shopping. With a bar stop every hour or so, just to keep things festive. Then finish it off at Union Square to watch them light up a big ‘ol tree. Santa himself counts down the lighting. Yee haw. And for $5, you can sponsor an ornament, the whole shebang supporting the UCSF Children’s Hospital. And as we all know, it’s all about the tykes.

Friday-Saturday: Thanksgiving Weekend @ Bella Vineyards
OK, we talk-up the hell out of these guys. Basically free PR for Bella, ‘cuz I like their wines, wine club (the only one we belong to), their cool marketing and great events. YOU’RE WELCOME, BELLA! JHC, a little gratitude wouldn’t kill ya. And by gratitude, I mean free wine. Wink wink. Nudge nudge. Anyhoo, they are sporting a 2-day event filled with wine, music, turkey pot pies, and other fun stuff. They have killer Zins and Syrah, so get up to Healdsburg and get yer swerve on. Bonus: They’re also doing a barrel sampling of their 2008 Lily Hill Zin.

Friday November 27-Sunday January 24: Cirque du Soleil’s Ovo
Sounds like a hit of acid might be in order for this one. Like I’d know. That word ‘acid’ always scared the crap outta me. Maybe if it was called ‘Honey’ or something. Who the hell is the marketing person for that drug? They should be fired. Personally I’ll stick with tequila shots. Anyhoo, the CdS’ newest performance, Ovo (‘egg’ in Portuguese), is all about immersing your drug-addled brain in an f’d up world of insects. What the hell does an egg have to do with insects? I dunno either. But who cares, this crew rocks the acrobatics and costumery, their shows are always a kick in the pants, and it’ll put you in a dandy holiday spirit. So go!
