Is it almost the weekend again already? Seems like ya just woke up to an Alka Seltzer cocktail on Monday morning doesn't it? Well, here we go again, so hop back on that horse and treat it like your beeyatch!

0814weekendbuzz avpThursday – Sunday:  2009 AVP Crocs Tour San Francisco Open

Which hot dude player has the best serve goin’ on? WTF cares! Y’all are here for the bikinis, don’t try to fool us.  And since Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh aren't participating, some of the others have a chance at a trophy and the weather's gonna co-operate. And there will be sand on Pier 30, ya gotta witness that. This event is a kick, you can sneak out for bevies at Red’s and Hi Dive, lotsa six packs (beer too), sun and fun. My big question is when are they gonna bring the Red Bull Flugtag back here?!

What: AVP Beach Volleyball
Where: Piers 30-32, San Francisco (Embarcadero & Brannan)
When: Thu 8a-6p, Fri 8a-7:45p, Sat 9:30a-6p, Sun 9a-5p
Cost: $10-100

0814weekendbuzz cocktail FridayArtisanal cocktail class with Scott Beattie and Lou Bustamante

What exactly is an 'artisanal' cocktail anyway? I mean, I kinda get artisinal cheese. Kind of. But cocktails? Hmmm. Anyhoo, it's alcohol. And it sounds like they're gonna be mixin' up some of those fancy drinks. I'm in. So let's not get caught up in the vernacular, shall we? Get yer drink on with a couple pros – Scott Beattie, the author of Artisanal Cocktails will school ya on how to make his signature bevvies – Blackberry Lick and the Westside Bellini.

Lou Bustamante from St. George Spirits & Hangar One will be around to talk about the distilling process and other cool (really!) stuff. We love Hangar One so might just have to get this dude's autograph. Hell, after drinking enough Hangar One Lime to fill an Olympic-sized swimming pool he should ask me for mine!

You'll get a couple cocktails, some snacks, St. George and Hangar One tastes, and the greatest gift of all: a valuable learning experience that will make you the hit at your next party.

What: Artisanal cocktail class
Where:  San Francisco’s Landmark Ferry Building, in the CUESA Dacor Teaching kitchen located in the North Arcade
When: 5:30p-7:30p
Cost: $40

0814weekendbuzz bigidea SaturdayWhat's the Big Idea? Party

I dunno, you tell me. OK, I guess in this case we'll get the Big Idea sung to us. That's kinda cool. It's a celebration of art, film and Muzac. Oops, music. Sorry. You can screen some film shorts, witness the renowned Burning Man 'alter master' Shrine build (and hopefully burn) a sacred Bird House. Chow down on some snacks from 'Lil Skillet. Oh yeah, and listen to some funkadelic tunes from The Cuban Cowboys ('surf rock'), Mezklah (tribal…is that ok to say?), Kulitroni (with a name like that do ya really need a cue?), and more.

Bonus! free tattoos from Philip Milic and Andrew Mann. For the more risk averse, Henna tattoos by Rachel-Anne Palacios are also available.

What: What's The Big Idea? Party
Where: Yerba Buena Center (701 Mission St)
When: 9p-2a
Cost: Free
Contact: (415) 978-2787

0814weekendbuzz wines Sunday  – Summer Wine Tasting Paso Robles & Santa Barbara

They’re baaackk! These Winery Collective people are pushers, and we love ‘em for it. Keep it coming, livers be damned! Taste dozens of wines from South Central Coast and meet winemakers from boutique Paso Robles and Santa Barbara wineries including Sol Rouge, Castoro and and Core.  We like this area, which has lots of top-quality boutique (no we won't call them 'artisanal') wineries.

What: Paso Robles & Santa Barbara Wine Tasting
Where: 485 Jefferson St. (Del Monte Sq. @ The Cannery)
When: 1p-4:30p
Cost: $20

0814weekendbuzz 1300 SundaySunday Brunch @ 1300
Skip church and chow down instead. 1300 hosts a Sunday brunch the 1st and 3rd Sundays of each month, so jump on it this weekend, you heathen. Get a three-course prix fixe meal for $39 (I know, not cheap but..) and listen to the gospel rhythms of Future Perfect, featuring father and daughter team Michael and Mickala Cheadle. Hey, listening to gospel is close enough to actually attending the service, right?

What: Sunday Brunch @ 1300 Fillmore
Where: …1300…Fillmore
When: Sunday 11a-1p
Cost: $39
Contact: (415) 771-7100

OK if none of these got yer WeekendBuzz juices flowing, keep it simple – a little beach lounging @ Crissy or Ocean Beach, or a nice hike on Mt. Tam, or hang out on the outdoor deck at High Dive and slam PBRs. Whatever it is, go!
