Goddamn that’s a mouthful, my wino friends. Fortunately so is this kick-ass vino. Maybe they should just rename it to ‘Fritz’ just to save us an f’ing syllable or twenty when we try to order it. And that doesn’t even include the umlaut I think needs to be in there somewhere. So, as we all know Fritz has gone Hollywood and is rubbing elbows (and hopefully other select body parts, just kiddin’, he’s happily married…and not like Tiger ‘happily married’) with the likes of Stacy Keibler (the 5′-14″ Queen of the Elves and Dancing With The Stars chick. And if you need a cookie you know where to go), Matt Leinart (I will withhold comments on that USC QB, and the fact the Ducks are treating them like their bitches lately but I hear he’s a super-nice dude, plus they kicked our asses when Leinart was there), and endless other celebs. Go Fritz!

So Fritz brought a bottle of this juice to lunch at Umbria the other day, and I instantly knew very little would be accomplished the rest of the afternoon. From the heft of the bottle to the high quality cork to the essence that emanates (emanates?!) from the bottle to the squid-ink purple color to the sweet slightly smoky and floral aromas of blueberries and eucalyptus to the initial holiday spice on the front of your lick stick to the luscious blacbkberry and blueberry when it caresses your shriveled taste buds to the awesome, lingering finish this thing’ll do a number on you. It’s got a body like Megan Fox. Bam!

And if ya need a little half-time calisthenics you can take a bottle of the ’06 Reserve Cab in your clammy paw and do some bicep curls. 3 sets of 10 reps each, bitch! This is a hefty MoFo inside the bottle and out, they did not spare on the glass.

Do Not Wait to drink this as your 2nd or 4th bottle of the night (or day, in our case). I mean, I usually don’t imbibe in red wine before 10AM.  I have a little bubbly, move into a crisp Sauv Blanc or two before hopping on Big Red, but in this case I was jazzed that Fritz hijacked my typical routine and started me off with this wine. It’s that good. Word.

And if ya still don’t believe me, even that fossil Robert M Parker Jr., who has a slightly better reputation (and way better palate. Or is it palette? Are you drinking or painting, I guess is the question to answer) than VdV, gave it a 93! Yee haw.

Plus, for all you snobs out there: yes, this’ll age just dandy, but it’s drinking damn good right now. So get some and pop most of it pronto, I mean the way you’re going your liver is gonna go AWOL before this reaches full maturity anyway.

AKA ‘Fritz’ goes for about $60 bones and is worth every shekel. Where can you get it? Well, you can drive your ass up to Alexander Valley and buy it direct from the winery, or if you’re too lazy for that, you can find it at places like K&….oh God, I hate this….K&L and other places, check it on WineSearcher. Get some and you may find yourself surrounded by celebs too! Nah.
