Tiza Malbec

Mendoza , Argentina

website

VdV Rating: 3.5

Was it our recent trip to Argentina that got me all hot and bothered about the Malbec? I mean, I had some several years ago and hated it so much it put me off the grid for the entire varietal. Maybe it was the mealy mouthed crotch weasel that I drank it with (let’s call him ‘Peter E.’ His entire name withheld to avoid a defamation lawsuit. That’s the type of mealy mouth crotch weasel he is).  Hell, take a number! I’m waiting for the day K&L serves me with a cease & desist.tiza ekman

Anyway, I digress. Back to my new fave varietal, Malbec. If you like Zinfandel, you’ll dig Malbec. And if you dig Malbec, you’ll lust over the Tiza Malbec, bitches! This wine is not for weenies. It’s a fruit forward wine that’ll kick ya in the teeth. And make them purple at the same time. It has hoospah, do ya hear me?! I mean, it has a kick. Some bawlz.  Or as ‘real’ wine reviewers like Parker would say,  “The 2005 Malbec was aged in new French oak for 12 months. Opaque purple in color, it has a fragrant perfume of toasty oak, vanilla, wild raspberry, and black cherry. This is followed by a ripe, smooth-textured, spicy wine with vibrant fruit, silky tannin, and a fruit-filled finish. Drink this outstanding value in Malbec over the next 5-7 years.” Blah blah. Sheesh. Learn how to be concise would ya, Parker?! Anyhoo, he also rated it a 90, which is damn good for a $15 vino.

But F’ Robert Parker, Jr., what does your source of wine to imbibe say? (hint, that’s VinDivine in case you were wondering). And VdV sez this wine rocks it. Tiza brings it strong, from the color to the nose to the kick ass flavors. You get blackberry and cassis on the schnozola, that develops in a somewhat brambly blackberry and almost Chambord taste with just a little smokiness and white pepper on the finish. Mmmm Mmm good. It’s really a wine you’ll want more and more of. In fact, we’re bestowing Tiza a 91. So there, RP, Jr.!

This wine is worth every Peso. We found it in a little wine store in Midtown Manhattan. You can pick it up for $15-16, even those mealy mouth crotch weasels at K&L carry it! Hey K&L I gave you a link, call off the dogs!
